Abstract:
We present an overview of actual and topical problems of time-frequency analysis and discuss its applications to the transcription and time-filtering of music signals. Unlike classical Fourier Analysis TFA deals with time and frequency simultaneously (spectrograms). Our main focus is on Gabor analysis, which is one of the most interesting parts of TFA. The core idea of Gabor analysis is to expand the signal into a series of time-frequency concentrated building blocks (atoms), which are constructed from a single building block by translation (time shift) and modulation (frequency shift). We will consider recent progress in Gabor analysis and some applications to modelling musical sound.
