You would need to re-calibrate a new 1.6HDi EGR valve and this is how you can do it.

The car is a turbo diesel 1.6HDi Peugeot Partner (2007; M59; ~103,000 miles or ~166.000 km), the same as a Citroen Berlingo.

If you have cleaned your EGR valve in the 1.6HDi, you do not need to recalibrate, recode or reset the EGR valve in the ECU settings. If you are replacing an old EGR valve, then you need to reconfigure the new EGR valve, so the ECU will know where the position of the small pin is (max and min).
I am using diagbox interfrace and the diagbox software. This could be purchased on ebay for example. The software runs on Windows XP and should potentially run on Windows 7. My car is Peugeot Partner, so I am using PP2000 or Peugeot Planet 2000 to reconfigure the EGR valve. For Citroen is the same diagbox software, but instead of Peugeot Planet 2000 one can use Lexia and the menu looks almost the same.

I am using Parallels desktop virtual machine, but one can of course install the software in any windows machine under a virtual machine or Windows XP. A free virtual machine can be downloaded here: https://www.virtualbox.org/
