1. 2014 BMW M4
The BMW M4 is a high-performance two-door coupe that's a close cousin to the M3 four-door sedan. The M4 can be regarded as the next generation of the M3 coupe and carries on the long tradition of being one of the world's great driving cars.
It looks great, goes like a rocket, sounds the part, and has brakes that make your eyes bulge forwards when you really get stuck into the pedal.
The M4 has an uninspiring idle and sounds much like a big capacity turbodiesel at part throttle. All the extra torque makes a huge difference to the driving experience. Not only is it 111lb ft more substantial overall, but that peak is delivered from 1850-5500rpm, and you can feel much of it kick in from 2000rpm.

2. 2016 MERCEDES-AMG C63S COUPE
The S version of the C 63 AMG Coupé, Mercedes’ V8-powered pile-driver. What’s in the S? Well, more poke, inevitably. Where the standard model gets 469bhp, the flagship, courtesy of the extra boost pressure being summoned up by its dual BorgWarner turbochargers, is equipped with a robust 503bhp.
That’s 89bhp more than an Audi RS5, officially making it “a lot”. But the real enhancement comes in peak torque, where the S exceeds even the AMG GT with 516lb ft from 1750rpm, which is also more than a McLaren 570S or Lamborghini Huracan owner enjoys.
To wrestle the power onto the road, the S gets a quicker electronic rear diff in place of the regular C 63’s mechanical version, and it sits on fatter wheels and tyres. Compared with the saloon, the whole thing could be called ‘phatter’.

3. 2011 AUDI RS5
The RS5 keeps the RS4’s high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V-8, but now it’s stronger by 30 hp, for a total of 450. The compression ratio is 12.3:1. High-revving in this case means up to an 8300-rpm redline, so long as the oil is up to temperature; the engine is protected by a 6000-rpm limiter otherwise. It’s no secret that with this engine Audi wanted to show BMW that Munich isn’t the only German town capable of building high-revving V-8s.You can say bye-bye to the crisp six-speed manual transmission of the RS4, as the RS5’s power is shunted only through a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual. When we asked whether there would be a standard gearbox offered in the future, Fröhlich told us, sadly, that “the majority of customers in this segment are used to automatic transmissions.” In its favor, the dual-clutch unit—Audi calls it S tronic—allows the driver to include transmission setup as part of the configurability offered by the optional Audi Drive Select (ADS) adjustable chassis system. It also helps that the S tronic box is good. In the RS5, shifts occur without any hesitation, and the quickness produces some sweet burbles and overrun from those twin exhaust cannons out back.
