The Lotus Cortina was produced by Ford and Lotus cars between 1963 & 1966. It is a high performance sports saloon. The Lotus Cortina featured in today's film at Autosport International 2020 show is part of the 1960s display which is part of the show celebrations celebrating 70 years of Motorsport. The car is owned by Jordan racing team.
The Lotus Cortina is a 1557cc and homologated in September 1963. Reigning World Champion Jim Clark dominated the 1964 British Saloon Car Championship with the Lotus Cortina. In 1964 Jim Clark won 7 of the 8 rounds in class B of the British Saloon Car Championship. The following year Sir John Whitmore won the 1600 class of the European Touring Car Challenge.
The name Consul is featured on the front of the car but is later dropped. The car had been promoted by Ford as the Consul Cortina developed by Lotus. Over the period of manufacture from 63 to 66 there were over 3300 cars produced as the Lotus Cortina.
