US President Donald Trump has accused race car driver Bubba Wallace of perpetuating a hoax when he claimed a noose was found in his assigned garage.

The President called on Mr Wallace via Twitter to apologise after federal authorities found the rope was used as a door pull.

Mr Trump also criticised NASCAR’s decision to ban the Confederate flag from all races and events in response to Black Lives Matter protests which rocked the US following the death of George Floyd in police custody.
