Meet Molly! A true piece of motoring history!
Having been built in 1960 and registered on the 22 March 1961 this is the very first incarnation of the Mini, known in its early years as the Morris Mini-Minor (Morris) and the Austin Seven (Austin) before later in 1962 becoming known as just Mini. She was dispatched to City Motor Company LTD Cardiff.
Molly is a Super deluxe model coming with chrome trim and having a heater fitted as a factory option. There are a few telling points between the standard deluxe and super deluxe. Wearing Old English White paint and her original red interior, the smell is just wonderful.
Having had 3 owners in her long 60 years Molly has covered exactly 39,000 miles, I have trailered it everywhere to keep it the same (Crazy I know) The Mini is pretty much original other than having had a new drivers side wing, rear sub-fame & a documented repaint in 2010 in its original old english white. Pretty much everything else was refurbished since being repainted in 2010 and it has been unused in a barn as part of a private collection since.
Sporting the incredible 848cc (850) 34bhp A series engine this Mini isn't going anywhere fast but they make a wonderful sound and this is what the Mini should be, the pure essence of driving enjoyment! Molly still has drum brakes all around as she left the factory. The driving experience of these early Minis isn't for the faint of heart and they drive quite differently from the later ones. The simplicity of the early Minis in quite beautiful.
I have just had the wheels refurbished, powder coated and wrapped in period correct rubber from Vintage tyres as great expense but these old ladies deserve the very best. Obviously these early cars are MOT & TAX exempt. Also cheap to insure but I'd always recommend an agreed value as these are becoming collectable thus also very expensive but more importantly find another in such original condition is almost impossible, they are only original once!
I do have a brand new carpet set for her but have left it unfitted as wanted to show how clean and original the floors are. I have a few other bits to fit, windscreen and rear screen chrome fillers, grill moustaches and chrome body seam side trim.
